| Everyone loves her gentle nature. | What a pretty mover! |
Lugana is a beautiful, 1995, FHS-registered STAR mare standing 16'2 hands. She was imported from Germany as a two-year old and received a second premium. She has mostly been a brood mare, having three colts (Willie, Dakota and Broderick) and two fillies (Indigo and Rayna). Dakota has been approved as breeding stallion for FPZ. This is a HUGE honor for Lugana!
Lugana arrived at Stoney Wood Friesians in May 2004 and attended her first dressage schooling show with Jennifer riding her at introductory level. Lugana went camping in Euer Valley and participated with the quadrille at the Sacramento Horsemens Association Benefit BBQ.
In October 2004, Lugana completed her conditioning and training to prepare her for the FHS keuring. The results were worth the effort and expense as Lugana was judged to be a second premium star mare. In addition, Lugana was awarded the "United States Reserve Champion Adult Mare " by FPZ. We are very proud of her. In 2005. Lugana spent most of her time being an excellent mother to Baby Rayna and then doing some trail riding as Rayna was weaned. Lugana then spent 2006 in Utah with Rebecca Lerwill.
Lugana returned home in 2007 and spent a year on the trails with Sue Walther. She is a wonderful trail mount - full of energy but safe and sane.
On June 26, 2008, Lugana presented us with a gorgeous colt! He was sold to Rebecca Lerwill from Utah. So, Lugana and Baby Broderick (Bodie) headed to Utah to relax in Rebecca's pastures. In December 2008 Lugana returned home to resume her life as a pleasure and trail horse!
Sue and Lugana did the Pony express re-ride in 2009! And Lugana carried Lisa Mahon this year in 2010 for the 150th anniversary reride. (see picture at right)
I've had so many wonderful Friesian broodmares through the years, but Lugana is truly special. She's done having babies now and will get to relax and enjoy the pampered life of a pleasure mount in beautiful Northern California. I am so fortunate to have found this lovely mare.
