Stoney Wood Friesians

 Verite' (Veri)

In 1998 I purchased my first Friesian broodmare, Allie.  She arrived in California heavy in foal and shortly thereafter my first Friesian filly was born.  I named her Verite' - French for honest/truthful.   Of course I was supposed to sell the foal but ended up falling in love with little "Veri".   When Veri turned two, I sent her to Steve Haupt to learn to pull the cart.  She was GREAT at it and we ended up driving at State Fair that year when she hadn't even turned three yet!

In 2002, I had moved out to Lincoln and was working full time downtown, running a ranch and trying to keep my Friesian breeding operation afloat.  I received  a call from a lady in Oregon that was looking for her first Friesian.  She needed a safe riding and driving horse that could also be bred.  Of all my horses - Veri was the one that really fit the bill.  So, I sold her to Marci.  Over the years Marci and I have kept in touch knowing we had one very major thing in common - we both loved Veri.  So, imagine my surprise when I received a call  that Marci saying the was looking for a new home for Veri and asked me if I would take her back.  Standing in the paint aisle at the Ace hardware store, I just cried.

It was nine years between the time I put Veri in the trailer and sent her to Oregon and her return home last May.   Veri and I are both a little older and  a little thicker through the middle.   She has been a valuable broodmare and I've been learning to ride dressage.  But its so nice to be back together.  This summer we had the chance to hook  up the cart and take Veri for a drive through the neighborhood.  It is so nice to drive with my old friend.  Life just doesn't get any better than that!
